New Offering Expands Renewable Energy Across the Region and Adds New Revenue Stream to Local Community Organizations

Saratoga Springs, NY – ReWire Energy in partnership with the community solar developer US Light Energy today announced an exciting new program aimed at increasing Community Solar usage while also powering new revenue to local nonprofits.  This unique approach includes ReWire helping supporters of local nonprofits sign up for Community Solar, with added incentives going to that nonprofit.

As part of this new partnership, ReWire, a family owned minority business enterprise based in downtown Saratoga Springs, will offer subscriptions to the popular and flexible renewable energy program – Community Solar.  This new offering comes in addition to the in-depth strategic energy consulting services offered by ReWire to commercial real estate developers, nonprofits, and government agencies.

ReWire is offering Community Solar subscriptions for all types of utility customers, including businesses, homeowners, renters, multifamily property owners, churches and other non-profits. These subscriptions are initiated through a simple process that enables all utility customers to share in a local, New York solar farm. The solar farms provide clean solar power to the utility’s electric grid and generate energy credits for the subscribers. The energy credits are applied to subscribers’ utility bills, and subscribers are then billed at a 10% discount for the value of the credits.

The added benefit of this new program is a customized outreach and education session for supporters of the participating nonprofits, informing those supporters of both the economic and environmental benefits of community solar. Supporters signing up through these nonprofit outreach sessions will also drive $50 to the nonprofit for each new signup.

The entire subscription process is simple and takes less than 5 minutes. Interested customers can visit rewireenergy.com/community-solar/ to subscribe. Community Solar subscribers do not need to install any new equipment at their location, there is no cost to subscribe and you can cancel with 90 days notice.

The next ReWire Energy Hour networking community engagement is featuring Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region.  This information session is open to the public and will be held on January 15 at 5:30pm at Glennpeter Jewelers, located at 1544 Central Ave, Albany NY 12205.

“Our mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth has been making a BIG difference in the lives of thousands of Capital Region kids for many years,” said Noelle Podoba, President of the Board of Directors.  “The lives we’ve changed and the results we’ve seen have only been possible thanks to the humbling generosity of our community.  We’re grateful for ReWire Energy’s belief in our mission and thankful for their support.”

Lee Evans, President of ReWire Energy said, “ReWire is a dedicated member of the Capital Region community and part of our company’s mission is to help make our community stronger.  The chance to further enable solar power usage while providing more resources to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region is a great way for us to do more while doing good. This is a no-brainer and a win-win for our community and customers.”

This program was recently launched and will be adding new nonprofit organizations regularly.

ReWire Brings Community Solar to Albany Landlord

The owner/manager of 250 student apartments in Albany’s Pine Hills neighborhood expects to save $5,000 to $7,000 annually by purchasing power generated from a community solar farm near Troy.

Asaf Elkayam, president of Jerusalem Management, arranged for the purchase through ReWire Energy of Saratoga Springs.

ReWire Energy served as a broker for Hope Solar Farm in Brunswick.

It’s the first deal of this size for ReWire Energy, which is offering community solar subscriptions for businesses, homeowners, apartment owners, tenants, churches and nonprofit groups.

“Asaf is by far our biggest customer,” said Lee Evans, president of ReWire Energy.

The 2-megawatt solar farm in Brunswick was developed by High Peaks Solar. It will soon be connected to the energy grid.

Community solar farms enable homeowners, businesses and other energy users to save on their utility bills without installing solar panels on their buildings or land. The energy credits from community solar are applied to subscribers’ utility bills. Subscribers are billed at a 10% discount for the value of the credits.
